FIGHTING FOR ARAPAHOE COUNTY

Meet
MAYA
Maya Wheeler is the kind of leader Arapahoe County District 4 needs right now. Born into a working-class family, Maya spent years in a union job before rising to become an IT leader, and then turned that success outward. She founded the Wezesha Dada Center in Aurora, a nonprofit that helps local youth explore careers, land their first jobs, and empowers women to find their economic footing regardless of their background. She went on to serve as Executive Director of the African Chamber of Commerce, championing small businesses and entrepreneurs across the region. The Aurora Sentinel once described her as "remarkably sensitive to the challenges struggling residents must face against a world pressing hard against the middle and working classes," and that was a decade ago. She's only gotten to work since.
Maya's career reflects a life of relentless service. She earned three master's degrees in health, business, and IT while raising a family and working full time, a testament to the grit she brings to everything she does.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped coordinate medical transportation and expand vaccine access to underserved and elderly communities. As a Child Welfare Specialist, she led reforms to CDHS practices across all 64 Colorado counties to reduce disparities and improve accountability. She has also advised bodies including Arapahoe County, the Colorado Health Benefits Exchange, and Denver Health's Community Advisory Panel on engaging communities of color with data-driven approaches.
We deserve a commissioner who has actually shown up for its residents, not just at election time. Maya Wheeler has spent her career fighting for working families, expanding civic participation in overlooked communities, and solving real problems without making it about politics. That's exactly the kind of leadership Arapahoe County needs on the Board of County Commissioners.
As Arapahoe County Commissioner, Maya will fight to:

CREATE MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING

EXPAND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY

IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS

PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT
